THE SPONTANEOUS PLAY OF CHILDREN IS THE PRIMARY TOOL FOR LEARNING.

The Stittsville Co-operative Nursery School (SCNS) aims to provide a stimulating environment in which children can learn trust and develop at their own pace. This leads to children becoming more independent socially, physically, emotionally and intellectually. Children are supervised in a quiet, positive and constructive manner.

The program is very well planned, yet not highly structured or academic in nature. Instead, it focuses on the activities that encourage children to experiment freely and creatively. Art and craft activities do not necessarily have to "be" anything and can be an experiment in colour, cutting or pasting, satisfying the children and preparing them for more intricate activities later on.

The children learn to handle themselves in a larger group of peers, take instruction from other adults, and develop new relationships. Children begin to find a balance between being a unique individual and co-operating as part of a team.

Our goals are to provide a positive nursery school experience for every child and to help support parents in matters related to early childhood education.

In our nursery school, we wish to provide an environment which:

	stimulates physical, emotional, social and intellectual development of the child.
	offers children the opportunity to socialize, explore and experiment with a wide variety of activities.
	nurtures feelings of confidence and self-esteem.
	has the space, equipment and supervision necessary to meet the needs of the active pre-schooler.
